CASE STUDY: Integration of websites after an acquisition

Belgacom

How to renew a website? How to integrate two sites after an acquisition? TBSCG brought our experience to Belgacom.

The Problem

Belgacom was using 8-year-old interwoven infrastructure software to manage its websites. The process of maintaining and updating content, and carrying out technical maintenance was beginning to get rather laborious; and the system had basically reached its limit.

What’s more, Belgacom had taken over the mobile phone operator Proximus, and the two companies’ Content Management Systems needed to be unified.

The Solution

TBSCG, in partnership with LBi Belgium, developed an integrated solution that focused on providing a user-friendly experience, a high level of performance, and different access rights for different content providers, all while simultaneously building in enough flexibility to allow for future developments.

Description

The project involved upgrading the company’s software to TeamSite 6.7.2, and installing LiveSite 3.1 to replace the old Java runtime system that had been developed in-house.

Key features:

  • The grid structure, skins and content are all totally separate. This means that the webmaster, graphic designer, and content manager can all work on the site at the same time without generating conflicts.
  • The digital media management system, which uses the LiveSite MediaBin connector, is extremely user-friendly: content managers simply select their images from a MediaBin gallery. The system then automatically adjusts each image so that it is correctly displayed on the page (converting, reframing, resizing).
  • Code has been simplified, thus dramatically reducing development times. The LiveSite components have been “cleaned-up”, so XHTML templates can now be easily merged with XML content.
